King of the Waitemata brings the fastest wind-powered watercraft to Auckland

During the last five years, there have been countless adventurers where Kiters and Sailors have challenged themselves against time and fellow water sports enthusiasts to see who could record the fastest circumnavigation of Rangitoto and Motutapu Islands.

Taking place on the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf, we noticed an increasing interest of people taking up the challenge and daring the elements to break previous records. Last year, we decided to make an official event named “King of the Waitemata.”

The competition gathers local and international wind-powered lovers to Auckland waters to test themselves against nature elements.

We encourage diversity of disciplines, professional and amateurs alike to share their knowledge and skills. We hope to maintain awareness of our fragile marine environment in Tamaki makau rau.

After the success of last year’s inaugural event, we are looking to continue to inspire enthusiasm and fair play. As part of our mission, we aim to communicate the importance of conscious action towards our oceans.

Lock in this year’s events scheduled for this Anzac Day 25th April 2018.
